A Day in the Life: District Manager

Back to Blog List Page

Recently, I had the opportunity to visit one of our local district offices for a couple of days to learn more about what life in a district is really like. I enjoyed learning about the different positions and had the opportunity to get their first-hand account of what they do on a daily basis.

One person I had the opportunity to meet was Nancy Staley from our Woodbine, NJ Office. Below is her Day in the Life account of being a District Manager.

Explain your role with AmeriGas?

I am a District Manager so I am the overall person in charge of our Woodbine, NJ office.

How long have you been with the company?

I have been with the company for a total of 31 years. I began as a seasonal employee and did this for two years and have now been a full time employee for 29 years.

What was your first position with the company?

I started as a seasonal Customer Relations Representative (CRR).

What is your typical day like?

On a typical day I interact with many people including fellow employees, customers, vendors, and team members from Valley Forge. The first thing I like to do every day is say “Good Morning” to all of the employees as I come in or as I see them come in. I find this really helps start the day out on the right foot. Then I check my e-mails. In addition, I may have a few conference calls scheduled in between. I usually try and speak to a few customers each day as well and I strive to end the conversation on a positive note. Every Thursday I have a Safety Meeting with all of my employees. This meeting also gives everyone the opportunity to go over any miscellaneous office matters or concerns. I am very passionate about my position and hold all of my employees to high standards when it comes to taking care of our customers and safety. I find each day is a new challenge which keeps my job very interesting.

What is most rewarding aspect of your job?

The most rewarding part of my job is when I receive feedback from the customers on what a good job one of our employees has done. Also, when we have a month with zero safety incidents and we make our (other) goal(s).

What is your favorite pastime outside of the office?

I enjoy going to the beach and going out on the boat with my children and grandchildren.
