We don’t think so! But in case you need more convincing, here are our top 8 reasons to install a propane powered fireplace in your home.

1. There are nearly unlimited design options!

From corner fireplace units that add a dimension of the unexpected, to traditional stone you’d think belonged in a castle—the possibilities are endless. 2. You can heat up any room

A propane fireplace can be installed in any room when you use a ventless version. So, if you have a drafty bathroom, office, basement, or cupboard under the stairs where you’re keeping your magical nephew, a ventless propane fireplace could be the answer.

There are a few styles/types of ventless propane fireplaces, and the best one to use will depend on where you’re looking to install it.

Direct vent propane fireplaces

This is the most common venting method. It requires your fireplace to be installed on or near an exterior wall, but no chimney is required. This vent is known as a “sealed system.” This means it sends exhaust from the fireplace outside while bringing in fresh air for combustion. This method is highly efficient, with the added bonus of knowing the warm air inside your home is very clean.

Vent-free propane fireplaces

These “open” systems require no venting. This means there is no pipe or chimney necessary. Air is taken directly from the room and burned to hot. This burns up any exhaust before sending the warmed air back into the room. Because of this, Vent Free propane fireplaces are the most efficient heat source and can be used in any room.

B-vent propane fireplaces

Such as with a Direct Vent fireplace, the exhaust produced by the unit goes outside. However, it draws the air from inside the home which makes it an unsealed system. Because these vents must be vertical they typically take up less space and are a great option for smaller rooms—but won't work in all of them.

3. You're a member of the "Always Cold Club"

Feel like no matter how many layers you have on, it’s still never enough? Well, a propane fireplace could be the answer. And ladies, if you’re feeling especially chilly when compared to the men in your life there’s a scientific reason to back it up.  Studies reveal that a woman’s metabolism works at a slower pace than a man, meaning women actually produce less body heat. So, if you need to make up for what nature has done, then wrap yourself in fuzzy socks and snuggle by your newly installed propane powered fireplace! Science says so.

4. Propane powered fireplaces are a super-efficient heat source

Did you know that propane fireplaces can provide highly efficient space heating to certain areas of your home with efficiency ratings of over 90 percent? To put that in perspective, traditional wood-burning fireplaces are only about 15 percent efficient. The reason for this is mainly due to the loss of thermal energy from combustion going up the chimney and, in turn, also drawing the heated air out of the home.

Depending on the capacity of your new propane powered fireplace you can expect to go through 25-75 gallons of propane per year for occasional use and between 150-200 gallons annually if the fireplace is being used regularly for space heating.

5. Super easy to use

Propane fireplaces offer features that wood-burning fireplaces only dream about, including push-to-start, remote control options, advanced temperate control, and more! Some propane powered fireplaces can even be turned on with an app on your smartphone!

6. Nearly maintenance free

Propane fireplaces are virtually maintenance-free, except for an occasional (and recommended) professional cleaning and adjustment every few seasons! Since they require no wood logs, they won’t create ash and soot, whereas wood-burning fireplaces require regular cleanings. Burning wood produces a substance known as creosote, which may become a fire hazard as it accumulates.

7. They're a very green heating solution for your home

Propane fireplaces are the eco-friendly champs of the fireplace world! These nature-loving appliances have a much lighter footprint than their wood-burning cousins, producing fewer nasty emissions and carbon monoxide. In some areas, traditional wood-burning fireplaces are banned during certain times of the year due to their appalling air quality impact. Plus, let's not forget about those electric fireplace units - they might look pretty, but they're not so pretty for the planet. Those electricity-guzzlers are mainly powered by coal-fired plants that give off a ton of CO2 and other air-quality-impacting emissions. So, go ahead and cozy up to a propane fireplace without any eco-guilt trips!

8. Cleaner air for inside your home (compared to wood)

While it may seem like an all-natural heating solution, when you burn wood, you’re releasing more harmful toxins into the environment (and your home) than you’re probably aware of. Trees are nature’s air filer, absorbing a vast array of man-made air pollutants. When that tree is cut down and used for firewood, it’s a two-fold kick to mother nature—the removal of a CO2 filter and oxygen creator, plus the re-release of previously filtered toxins back into the atmosphere, and your home.

If you love being cozy, stylish, and a champion for the environment, a propane fireplace could be the perfect solution for your home heating needs.
