AmeriGas and UGI Employees Give Soldiers the Gift of Communication

Employees from AmeriGas and UGI Corporate Offices in King of Prussia, PA recently participated in their annual Corporate Clean-Up Day. In years past the day provided employees the opportunity to clean up their work spaces and purge any non-essential items to create a more efficient work setting for everyone. However, this year members of the Activities Committee wanted to use the day to do more than just clean their desks they wanted to give back, so they decided to hold a cell phone recycling event with donations going to “Cell Phone for Soldiers.”

Cell Phones for Soldiers is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing cost-free communication services to active-duty military members and veterans. Mailing approximately 3,000 calling cards each week they have provided more than 213 million minutes of free talk time to our men and women in the military. The organization funds its mission through monetary contributions and the recycling of donated mobile phones. Newer or gently-used mobile phones from all service providers are accepted and each donated device valued at $5 will provide troops with 2.5 hours of FREE talk time.

The event which took place in Mid-May yielded more than 50 phones for this great cause and provided employees not only with a chance to help our military but also help our environment. Donating old cell phones in ways such as this help keep them out of our local landfills!
