How do I become a residential propane customer?

What should I do if I'm planning to move in or move out of a home with propane?

If you are moving from a residence with AmeriGas service, please contact us to close your account prior to moving. If you are selling your home, please contact us for important information prior to selling your home.

Procedures and regulations vary by state so it’s important you speak with a local representative prior to your move. Our knowledgeable local representatives will be able to advise you on tank ownership, what happens with the propane in your tank, and closing your account. If you are moving into a location with AmeriGas service, please contact us to set up your account. Moving into a residence with active service does not automatically transfer ownership of the account and does not guarantee service will remain turned on. Where can I view the latest Terms and Conditions or Fees and Rates applicable to my residential account?

Where can I obtain a copy of my residential contract?

A copy of your contract may be within your documents in your MyAmeriGas account, or can be obtained by contacting our customer service center at 800-263-7442.

Are there installation or setup fees for new customers?

Installation costs vary by the type of installation, the required amount of work and geography. The average cost for a customer-owned tank is $69.99 for the Service Dispatch Fee. The average cost for a standard installation or swap-out of an above ground tank is $250. There are additional costs if the tank needs to be buried or if additional work on gas lines needs to occur. Discounts may be available by location or promotion.

Do you offer rewards for new customer referrals?

When you refer a new residential customer, you will both receive a VISA prepaid card when your referral signs up as a residential heating customer, and receives their first delivery. VISA prepaid cards are offered to other types of new AmeriGas customers. Visit here for more information on residential referrals.
